The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC ) is an exemplary model of what can happen when people are intent on growing future generations of readers.

Since 2019, cultural connections and self-determined routines of daily reading by families have been strengthened by the creation, publication, and distribution of books that reflect SRPMIC and celebrate O'odham and Piipaash life. Salt River Schools, community departments, and nonprofit agencies are committed partners in book distribution efforts.
